Exhibit
As you may have heard, AHSL will be hosting another National Library of Medicine traveling exhibit. This one is called “Changing the Face of Medicine; Celebrating America’s Women Physicians.” The exhibit will arrive sometime early in the week of February 9th. Jose could use a couple of volunteers to help the committee set it up. The exhibit will remain on display until March 27.
Reception
The grand opening reception for the exhibit will be on Wednesday, Feb. 18th at 6 PM in 2101. Like the Frankenstein reception this one will consist of “heavy hors d’oeuvres”. At the reception we will honor some of the “Local Legends”, female physicians who have made a notable contribution to healthcare in Arizona. The reception will also precede a performance of “A Lady Alone”.
“A Lady Alone”
On Wednesday, Feb. 18th, the library will host a performance of “A Lady Alone. Elizabeth Blackwell: First American Woman Doctor” by N. Lynn Eckhert, M.D. This one-woman show, starring actress Linda Gray Kelley will be presented at Noon and 7 PM. We expect both performances to be in DuVal Auditorium. The noon performance will be primarily for AHSC students and the evening performance will be open to the public. We will need some volunteers to walk people from the reception to the play. Whether you volunteer or not, please try to join us for the reception and the play!

Outlook is coming!
Sometime in the near future the library will be moving from MeetingMaker to Outlook as our calendaring system. Outlook is compatible with many portable devices and is free. MeetingMaker is more of a closed system and costs the library for every account. I will try to pass along information as we get closer to this transition.

Budget
In the next week or so I will be meeting with Provost Hay, Vice President Crist, Dean Goldschmid and Dean Stoffle to discuss the impact of projected budget cuts on the libraries. Although we are expecting very hefty cuts during 2009, I believe that this meeting will help the library to avoid excessive cuts that could permanently harm our ability to serve the campus.

New Position for Kristy
As of Monday, January 12, Kristy Stephens will leave the library and move into a new position titled "Coordinator of Instructional Technology." In this new role, she will be responsible for directing & coordinating the activities of the Office of Instructional Technology - Phoenix to support academic computing and instructional innovations. Although her new position is in Information Technology Services she will still devote about 10% of her time to the library and will continue to serve on our web committee.
Her new office will be in Building 3, Room 3383 and her new phone number is (602) 827-2181. She will report to Dr. Howard Silverman and will directly supervise Nate Brown.
Please join me in congratulating Kristy on moving into this new position!
Because of the hiring freeze Jacque has been given permission and funding to hire several student workers to help cover evening and weekend hours at the AHSL-Phoenix.
