KRI students, Sarah, Furniture, ScienceDirect, ILL

Welcome to new KRI students
Please join me in welcoming our three interns from the SIRLS Knowledge River Program. Diana Almader-Douglas, Sara Tankersley, and Jamie Navarette will be working in various departments around the library, visiting other local libraries and attending the annual meeting of the Medical Library Association thanks, in part, to a grant from the National Library of Medicine.

Congratulations Sarah!
Congratulations to Sarah on her new job at the Downtown branch of the Pima County Public Library! We are sad to lose Sarah but happy that we have obtained an exemption from the hiring freeze and will be able to fill this vacancy.

Furniture reupholstering
Thanks to the new student fee money we have been able to reupholster 18 more chairs including two from the Information Desk.

Science Direct interruption
Access to ScienceDirect titles was down for about 24 hours and has had an impact on the libraries and our users. Mary and Dave worked with Steve Bosch at UAL (the main campus library) and Elsevier to get access turned back on. It appears that things are stable once again, but we're checking to be sure all options for pdf and html full text have been restored properly.

Interlibrary Loan
Our users may see a bit slower service in ILL while Kathy Tower is on vacation. Everyone is pitching in, including Nga, but demand has increased pretty dramatically with our faculty and students returning for the new school year. The ScienceDirect problem also resulted in many ILL requests for journals we license through ScienceDirect that normally users would have been able to access themselves.
