Congrats to Jennifer M, Lynn, Darla; Special Collections; Party

Congratulations Jennifer!
Jennifer Martin has received funding from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy for her grant proposal, “Determining the Information Literacy of First Year Pharmacy Students”. This is the first year that the AACP has accepted applications from librarians so Jennifer’s grant is one of the first awarded to a librarian! The project will begin in January and will continue for a 1-year period. In addition to this award, the AACP will fund $1,000 so that Jennifer can travel to San Antonio for the Annual AACP Conference in July 2011 and present a program on her project.

Jennifer has also had two papers accepted for presentation at the Annual Meeting of the Medical Library Association in Minneapolis next May. Her paper, “Using Role Play to Teach Literature Search Skills to Pharmacy Students” will be presented in a session on Instructional Best Practices and her second paper, “Librarians as Members of an Interdisciplinary Team Conducting a Systematic Review of Pharmacists’ Impact on Direct Patient Care” will be presented in a session devoted to The Role of the Librarian in the Systematic Review Process.

Congratulations and welcome!
Please join me in congratulating and welcoming two new Clinical Education Librarians to the library faculty. Lynn Flance from the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System here in Tucson and Darla Anderson from our own College of Medicine have applied for and been granted Clinical Education Librarian appointments in the AHSL and the College of Medicine. In January I’ll be sharing a list of all of our “CELs” with a little information about each and about the program.

Special Collections
For a long time we have stored various pieces of artwork, framed certificates and some other items in less than ideal conditions. Dave has designed a storage system that will be installed in the Collection Services area, in place of most of the shelving that is currently there. We have asked Facilities to begin work and hope that installation will occur in the near future.

End-a-thon
Thanks to all who made our end of year party such a great success! I’m sorry that I had to eat and run but am glad that the bowling and dancing has been preserved in our photo archives!
